Abstract

The link between international security and international relations has been the subject of a weak, if not non-existent, debate in our region. A very difficult task is to assess what exactly international security represents in international relations. As difficult as trying to measure it, demarcate it or achieve a security situation through a single political decision. More than a concept, an approach, indicators, facts or causes, obtaining security in a given international situation is the result of a process through which we have had to identify what we want to protect, from what threat, with what means and at what time. With this end in mind, this paper aims to be a contribution to the analysis of international security challenges to build security policy, taking as an example the Chilean case in relation to the region.
