Abstract

Brazil's current position in Latin America is characterized by a certain ambiguity. On the one hand, the country participates in all specialized international organizations, both hemispheric in nature, of which the United States is also a member. And on the other, the country maintains a correct but distant bilateralism with most of the countries in the region and exercises the same bilateralism in its relations with countries outside the region - including the United States - in terms that exclude any intra-Latin American coordination regime. This article examines the position of Brazil in Latin America and the main alternatives available to it - the paths to either separation or integration - to achieve its development and international autonomy.
