Abstract

Since the late 1950s, Latin American countries have formally committed to developing integration processes for their economies. This work examines the current rethinking of the projects of the 1950s; the compatibility of subregionalization and sectoralization in the regional integration approach; the tension between integration as a multilateral proposal and integration as a sum of bilateral proposals; the interaction in the internal and external dimensions of integration and, finally, the challenge of defining a project that would allow each country to maintain its individuality within the framework of effective solidarity.
