ntroduction: Aging involves the loss of functional reserve with alteration of multiple systems. This influences the deterioration of various aspects of health and quality of life. To improve these aspects there are different types of interventions in which physical activity has a prominent role. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of one type of physical activity in improving the quality of life of an elderly population of the community. Subjects and methods: We recruited 71 subjects aged 60 years attending a club of elderly. Were randomized into 2 groups (intervention and control) by a blinded observer. The intervention was aerobic physical activity for 30 minutes and calisthenics exercises for heating and cooling, for 10 weeks and 3 times a week. We evaluated 8 dimensions of quality of life at the beginning and end of the intervention by the SF-36. Results: Both groups had similar values at baseline. The intervention group improved clinically (5 to 25 points) and statistically significant (p <0.05) in the 8 dimensions of quality of life. The control group showed a modest improvement in 3 items exploring psychosocial aspects of quality of life. Conclusion: The physical activity in the community is a therapeutic alternative economic, easy to implement, safe to apply and produces a great impact on improving the quality of life of the population over 60 years Lorena Cerda A.Marcela Mascayano M.Sergio Sanhueza V.Eugenia Abusleme R.Claudia Wolf L.

The current concept of Parkinson’s disease comprises a group of non-motor symptoms: neuropsychiatric disorders, sleep disturbances and dysautonomia, among others. Orthostatic hypotension is a frequent problem that impairs the patient’s quality of life. We review the symptoms of this disorder, its pathogeny and the available diagnostic tools. We emphasize the early suspicion and show the treatment options, based on the available evidence and our experience.Rodrigo Gómez R.Lorena Hudson R.Pablo Venegas F.Sofía Guerrero B.Consuelo Silva C.Ximena Riquelme M.

Nasal symptoms are a major health problem for elderly people and affect their quality of life. Inflammatory conditions and influence of age on nasal physiology determine its pathogenesis. Changes of immune function, structural characteristics of nasal mucus and moisture, as well as alterations of mucociliary clearance and nasal air flow are present in these patients. Among the most prevalent diseases are sinonasal rhinitis, both allergic and non allergic, epistaxis, decreased olfactory function and rhinophyma, final stage of rosacea. Improving our understanding of the pathophysiology behind these disorders, allow us to make a proper assessment of these patients and develop effective therapies to give them proper solution, thus improving their quality of life.Rodolfo Nazar S.Javiera Pardo J.

Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) in the common endocrine malignancy. Its frequency increases with age and its have a female predominance. There is evidence that papillary thyroid cancer is increasing in recent years. It has been proposed that this increase is independent from the greater availability of diagnostic techniques, because is observed an increase in both small tumors like those of grater size and more advanced stage. The causes of this increase are unclear and several hypotheses have been raised, including within these possible factors the presence of chronic thyroiditis (CT). Among the reasons to make this association is the relationship described between inflammatory processes and the genesis of cancer as well as some descriptive studies that reports a high incidence of CT in patients with DTC. But the results of these studies are controversial and there are other reports in rejecting this association.Alejandra Lanas M.Francisco Cordero A.
