Review process by evaluators

The process of reviewing the articles is done by peer reviewers, under the double blind system, in which authors and evaluators are unaware of each other's identity and respective institutional affiliation. The editorial team considers the pertinence of the material received, notifying the author in a timely manner regarding the acceptance or rejection of the material sent.

The evaluation process includes the following stages and actions:

1. Reception of the articles through the portal "Submission of Articles"; review by editors, who will estimate their relevance and compliance with the requirements set forth in the publication rules. Once accepted for the peer evaluation, the authors will be informed of the formal reception of the article.

2. Once the deadline for the reception of articles has expired, the editors will contact at least two evaluators, who will not have a record of the authors. Also, the author or authors will not know who will review your article.

3. The evaluation will be defined on the basis of the following points:

- Originality of the subject, the approach with which it is approached and the clarity with which the arguments are expressed.
- Logical structure in the formal development of the article, with a correct wording and spelling.
- Congruence of the images used in the article, be these photographs, plans, tables, graphs or others.
Relevance of the reference used and correct use of the APA citation standard.
4. The evaluators can conclude that: they accept the article; the article is accepted with modifications of form and / or content; they reject the article

5. In case of discrepancy between the evaluation of the peers, the editors will make the decision to accept, request modification, or reject the article.

6. The editors will gather in a single document the evaluations of each article and send them to the respective authors, in order to inform the reasons for acceptance, request for modifications or rejection of the article. The authors will have a period of three weeks to make the modifications requested by the journal.

7. In case the article is subject to corrections, the editors will receive the new version and verify compliance with the observations and suggestions made by the evaluators. If new doubts arise, the authors will be contacted again.

8. Once the evaluation process for all the articles has been completed, the editors will notify the Editorial Committee of the final contents of the new issue of the journal, in order to obtain different comments and suggestions for the editing and final publication process.

The complete evaluation process of an article sent to Investigaciones Geográficas, may take between 4 and 24 weeks, from its reception until the assessment report.
