Authors

Abstract

Objective: To understand the occupational and playful profile of children admitted to a reference hospital in maternal and child health. Methods: This is a descriptive and exploratory study with a quantitative and qualitative approach to data. The sample included six children and their respective companions. Inclusion criteria were children who had been hospitalized for at least two days, of both sexes and known to be in the age group of 8 to 13 years. Children's companions, over 18 years of age, who agreed to participate in the study and signed the ethical terms treated were also included. Children with cognitive impairment or who were tracheostomized, hospitalized in other hospital wards, unable to verbalize and write, who were in isolation at the time of collection, and who had COVID-19 or flu-like symptoms were not included. The instruments used were the occupational profile semi-structured interview, clinical profile form and sketchbook. Data were transmitted based on content analysis and descriptive statistics. Results: 83% of the children were female, all of school age, had been previously hospitalized and resided in the interior of the state. Playing and education were the occupations that most changed after hospital admission. Conclusions: Hospitalization influenced the functioning of biopsychosocial aspects and engagement in occupational and playful profiles, obtaining a relationship between these and the toy library in the ward, as well as continuous interventions that validate the disconnections and obstacles that hospitalization causes in routines and occupational profile of the hospitalized public.
