Abstract

This review analyzes El tiempo secreto de Ana: historia de vida. Una lectura desde terapia ocupacional comunitaria (Malavolta, 2024), a book that reconstructs, in a situated manner, the life and professional trajectory of Ana María Novick, recognized as one of the pioneers of community Occupational Therapy in Latin America. The text interweaves personal history, sociopolitical contexts, and professional practice, showing how Occupational Therapy was shaped through ongoing dialogue with everyday life, ethical commitments, and collective struggles. The book is proposed as offering a relevant lens through which to examine the relationships between the Latin American community’s Occupational Therapy and contemporary Occupational Science. Through notions such as collective occupations, occupational justice, and social transformation through occu-pation, it demonstrates how community practices developed in contexts of inequality anticipated debates that now occupy a central place in the discipline. These concepts emerge from situated practice, high-lighting the role of lived experience in the production of occupational knowledge. Furthermore, the review argues that the book contributes to debates on situated knowledge and epistemic justice by making visible trajectories and forms of knowledge that have historically been marginalized in dominant disciplinary narratives. Overall, this review positions El tiempo secreto de Ana as a conceptual and epistemological contribution to understanding occupation as a collective, relational, and politically situated phenomenon, with implications for research, education, and community practice.
