Abstract

This study investigated a 32-session group occupational therapy in- tervention for 80 male adolescents in a State of Mexico detention center, ai- ming to enhance social skills and prosocial behavior. Employing a pre-experi- mental pre-test post-test design, researchers measured social skills with the Goldstein Social Skills Scale HHSS and prosocial behavior (empathy, respect, and deficient manifestations) using the Martorell and González Prosocial Behavior Questionnaire (CCP). Significant improvements were observed in social skills (mean increase from 75.2 to 82.9, p < .001), empathy (18.5 to 21.2, p < .001), and respect (23.1 to 25.5, p < .001). Deficient prosocial behavior manifestations also significantly decreased from 65% to 25% (p < .001). These findings suggest group occupational therapy is a promising intervention for positive psychoso- cial development and social reintegration of adolescents in conflict with the law, though more robust research designs are warranted.
